Comstock Review – The Muriel Craft Bailey Memorial Award

Fee: $5 per poem; no limit to the number you may submit, but $5 fee must accompany each entry.

Prizes: 1st place: $1,000; 2nd place: $250; 3rd place: $100 Honorable mentions: subscriptions for 2013.

Deadline: July 1, 2013.

Poems must be original, unpublished in any medium, print or electronic, and not under consideration elsewhere. Simultaneously submitted poems will disqualify ALL of the poet’s poems from consideration. Please check your records carefully before submitting. No poem may exceed 40 lines (beginning with the first line of text below the title). Do not count blank lines. Please also consider our 65 character line width when submitting. Name and all contact information on the REVERSE side of EACH poem entered. If not included, we have to disqualify your entry. Judge: B. H. Fairchild. Glimmer Train – Fiction Open

Fee: $19 per story; please no more than three stories per contest.

Prize: 1st Place: $2,500, publication in Glimmer Train Stories, and 20 copies of that issue. 2nd place: $1,000 (and 10 copies if accepted for publication). 3rd place: $600 (or if accepted for publication, $700 and 10 copies).

Deadline:  June 30, 2013 (There is always a one-week grace period).

Most entries run between 2,000 and 8,000 words, but stories from 2,000 to 20,000 are fine. Winners and finalists will be officially announced in the June 1, Sept. 1, Dec. 1 and March 1 bulletins, respectively and will be contacted directly one week earlier. Hidden River Arts – William Van Wert Fiction Award – Manuscripts for fiction and drama

Fee: $15

Prize: $1,000, publication, and a reading.

Deadline: June 30, 2013

Hidden Valley Arts, founded by PDC mention Debra Leigh Scott. Is looking for manuscripts for its fiction and drama competitions. For the drama competition, they are looking for full-length, un-produced plays. Previously scripted or staged readings or workshops are permitted. No one involved in the competition takes any money from the activities—it is strictly a volunteer endeavor.

Hunger Mountain —Howard Frank Mosher Short Fiction Prize

Fee: $20

Prize: 1st Place: $1,000 and publication; two honorable mentions receive $100 each and are considered for publication.

Deadline: Postmarked by June 30, 2013.

This is an annual contest for short fiction with a chance for your fiction to be read by Hunger Mountain editors and guest judges. Anyone can enter. The 2013 judge is Michael Martone. You may submit electronically. Please enter one original, unpublished story under 10,000 words. Your name and address should not appear on the story. They read contest entries blind. Click the link below to access our online submission system.  Once in the submission manager, you’ll need to chose “Howard Farnk Mosher Short Fiction Prize.’ (scroll almost all the way to the bottom to find it). Pay the $20 entry fee and upload your entry. Enter the Howard Frank Mosher Short Fiction Prize OR you may enter via snail mail. Make checks available to “Vermont College of Fine Arts. Parlor Press’s Poetry Prize—fifth annual New Measure Poetry Prize

Fee: $28

Prize: $1,000 and publication of an original unpublished manuscript of poems. Up to four other manuscripts may be accepted for publication by Free Verse Editions editors.

Pearl A Literary Magazine – 2013 Pearl Poetry Prize

Fee: $25

Prize: $1,000 cash, 25 copies and a foreword by the finalist judge, Fred Voss.

Deadline: June 30th postmark

Manuscripts should include a title page with the author’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address; an acknowledgment page listing previously published poems, a table of contents, 48-64 pages of original poetry; and an SASE for reply or return of manuscript. Manuscripts should be unbound, typed pages numbered, and name should appear on the title page only. Clear photocopies and computer print-outs are acceptable. Open to all poets, with or without previous book publication. Previous winners, as well as students, friends and associates of the judge are not eligible. Mail submissions to:

Red Hen Press –Short Story Award

Fee: $20 for two stories:    Prize: $1,000 award and publication by Red Hen Press in the Los Angeles Review.

Deadline:  Postmarked by June 30, 2013.

Judge: Ron Carlson

Established in 2001, in celebration of the new century and a new tradition of literature, this award is for an original short story with a maximum of 25 pages.

Submission is open to all writers and themes. Please include your name on the cover sheet only. Send a SASE for notification. To be certain that every manuscript  finalist receives the fairest evaluation, all manuscripts shall be submitted to the judges without any identifying material. Bios, acknowledgments, and other identifying material shall be removed from judged manuscripts until the conclusion of the competition.
