Manchester Metropolitan University—Poetry and Fiction Prizes

Entry fee: €26 (approximately $20 U.S.) paid via PayPal.
Prizes: First Prize is €10,000 (approximately $15,433 U.S.)
Deadline:  August 30, 2013

Prizes are given annually for a group of poems and a short story. Bernard O’Donoghue, Adam O’Riordan and Fiona Sampson will judge in poetry; Alison Moore, Nicholas Royle, and Robert Shearman will judge in fiction.

Under the direction of Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metro. University is launching the 2013 Manchester Poetry and Fiction Prizes, celebrating excellence in creative writing, and open to anyone aged 16 and over (with no upper age limit).

The project is designed to attract the best new writing from around the world, and to establish Manchester as the focal point for a major literary award. Submit three to five poems, totaling no more than 120 lines, or a story of up to 2,500 words by August 30. Pavement Saw Press Transcontinental Poetry Award for First or Second Poetry Collection

Entry fee: $20 US and $23 Canadian; add $3 US for other countries to cover the extra postal charges; $27 for electronic submissions, world-wide
Prizes:  The winning author will receive $1,000 and 5 percent of the 1,000 press run.
Deadline:  Postmarked August 15, 2013 or earlier only.

All US contributors to the contest will receive books, chapbooks and journals equal to, or more than, the entry fee.

The manuscript should be at least 48 pages of poetry and no more than 70 pages of poetry in length. Separations between sections are NOT a part of the page count. Send a 1 page cover letter, include a brief bio, the book’s title, your name, address and telephone number and, if you have e-mail, your e-mail address.

Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival–Poetry Contest
