Gravity Box CoverWalrus Publishing and Left Bank Books are thrilled invite you to celebrate the release of Gravity Box and Other Spaces (Walrus Publishing, 2014) by Mark Tiedemann on Wednesday June 25th, 7pm at Left Bank Books in the Central West End.  The evening will include readings, signings, and refreshments.  Books will be for sale during the event.  Mark may also regale us with stories about his long career as a science fiction writer and why science fiction is so important.  There is no doubt that this will be a fun-filled and entertaining evening.

“Mark Tiedemann includes enough scientific and fantastical details to satisfy the most demanding sf/f reader, but the stories really draw their power from the book’s human elements—a woman’s longing for her lover’s touch, a young boy’s yearning to belong, an adolescent’s desperate attempts to break free of the poisonous gravity of home. It’s the familiar that makes the alien so relatable and so real.”
Sharon Shinn

Gravity Box is a fantastic addition to every science fiction or fantasy aficionado’s library.  It is a thought provoking collection.  Each story takes the reader on a journey down strange roads to unexpected places.  The territory seems familiar, but the scenery has changed making it possible to consider lives and loves with a new perspective.  Human connection is the Gravity Box which spins readers through past, future, and fantasy worlds.

Mark began publishing science fiction stories professionally after attending the Clarion Workshop in 1988. He has subsequently published more than fifty short stories, numerous reviews and essays, and ten novels. Compass Reach was shortlisted for the Philip K. Dick Award in 2002 and Remains for the James Tiptree Jr. Award in 2006. He served on the board of the Missouri Center for the Book for nine years, five as president, during which time he oversaw the creation of the Missouri State Poet Laureate post. He is a lifelong resident of St. Louis. He works part-time for Left Bank Books and is represented by the Donald Maass Literary Agency.

“Mark Tiedemann’s worlds are surreal, sexy, and strange. This is an inventive collection from an author who never fails to surprise.”
