Another Success For Renner’s Monthly Showcase

by our Mystery Reporter at the Scene!

A gathering of over forty poetry lovers came together at Duff’s Restaurant in the Central West End this past Monday, February 27th. Tony Renner’s “chance operations” series pleased the crowd, as always.  Starting off the show was musician Matt Harrish of Bunnygrunt, who regaled with his amusing singing-storytelling and guitar playing.  The first poet of the night was Treasure Shields Redmond, who continued the musicality by singing portions of her poetry, transfixing the audience.  Following Redmond was Lisa Ebert, whose poems had the audience laughing and frightened. Rounding out the featured artists was Matthew Freeman, whose poignant yet comedic voice disarmed the audience and invited it onto his boulevard of broken discourse.  After another musical interlude by Harrish, the open mic portion of the evening began, featuring well-known local poets, including Julia Gordon-Bramer, Dwight Bitikofer, Marcel Toussaint, Stan Wallach, Ben Moeller-Gaa, and Chris Parr, among others. Renner’s last-Monday-of-the-month event has earned a quality reputation for bringing together the voices of St. Louis writers.  February’s event was no exception.
