Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler — Ya’all

Well, I suppose it’s time to get a little informal or perhaps better said, a little more friendly.  Walrus Publishing is Saint Louis based and Saint Louis focused, but I (the publisher) have deep, deep family roots in New Orleans.  Now I’m not an historian, but Saint Louis and New Orleans are strongly connected too, so I hope you will indulge me as I rattle on a moment about Mardi Gras.

As I write, I’m sitting in a wonderful building in the Central Business District of New Orleans relaxing from a morning of drinking, talking, and people watching.  Ahh, the people!  Tall, short, fat, skinny, weird, friendly, nice,  crazy and somehow all seem kinda happy…what stories they must have.  I couldn’t help but notice them as I was “chatted up” this morning while I drank Abita Beer just off Canal.  I felt in two places at once as I watched them go by and listened to my new found friend.  These cities – twin cities in my mind – joined by a French Heritage – separated my miles of muddy river — are home to me.  While I still think my mother’s biggest mistake was to marry a Yankee, I love that she left me this heritage.  I love that Saint Louis allows my to straddle both worlds.   But, I lose my thoughts…

So, as my family, Little Beau Peep, the Big Bad Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood, and the “Feathered Ladies,” heads back down to Bourbon street, I take a moment to think of you and wish for you that Lent (or just Spring!) brings you peace and that the coming Spring and Summer bring you joy!

Oh, before I forget – just in case you’re having writer’s block for this month – here’s something to get you started (I hope…)

PROMPT:  Black, cold, ornate iron protected her from the storm of music, people, and shit – “Throw me somethin’ mister!” echoed down…

So….just what can you do with that?

Love ya’all!  Reality for Walrus will begin again tomorrow!  See ya then!
